A desktop computer has been used successfully to provide high quality graphical display of clinical data (e.g. vital signs) and laboratory data in conjunction with a hospital information system (Technicon MIS). This approach offers several advantages: 1) ease and speed of operation for physician with a pushbutton, menu-driven program; 2) ease and speed of system development; 3) versatility and flexibility. This approach also encourages use of the computer by physicians for a wide range of other applications.

Brain computer interface (BCI) systems measure brain signal and translate it into control commands in an attempt to mimic specific human thinking activities. In recent years, many researchers have shown their interests in BCI systems, which has resulted in many experiments and applications. However, most methods are just based on a specific selected dataset or a typical feature. As a result, there are questions about whether some methods generalise well on other datasets. Therefore, the major motivation of this thesis is to compare various features and classifiers described in the literature. Pattern recognition is considered as the core part of a BCI system in our research. In this thesis, a number of different features and classifiers are compared in terms of classification accuracy and computation time. The studied features are: time series waveform, autoregressive (AR) components, spectral components; these are used with different classifiers: such as template matching, nearest neighbour, linear discriminant analysis (LDA), Bayesian statistical and fuzzy logic decision classifiers. In order to assess and compare these different features and classifiers, an extensive investigation was carried out on a public dataset (imagined left or right hand movement) from an international BCI competition and the results are reported in this thesis. Approved for public release; distribution in unlimited.; The Computer Aided Prototyping System (CAPS) is a systems engineering tool intended to make the iterative process of software development more efficient. The simplest way to input and modify a CAPS design is through the graphical editor. When a design is modified over and over, the resultant graphical representation can become difficult to comprehend. Trying to change the graphical representation by hand can be very tedious. By adding automatic layout techniques to the graphical editor, this task is made easier for the user of the system. Automatic layout techniques for general graphs that maximize all of the aesthetic characteristics of a graph are not possible. One characteristic may conflict with another. By giving the user multiple layout algorithms that emphasis different characteristics over others, the user may choose between different layouts for the graphical representation. Since CAPS was in the middle of a restructure and no graphical editor was available, automatic layout techniques were investigated using other graphical editors. Graphs with characteristics similar to a CAPS graph were input into the graphical editors and then the layout algorithms applied. The results of this assessment proved that the addition of automatic layout techniques to CAPS would improve performance. In recent years Business Intelligence (BI) systems have consistently been rated as one of the highest priorities of Information Systems (IS) and business leaders. BI allows firms to apply information for supporting their processes and decisions by combining its capabilities in both of organizational and technical issues. Many of companies are being spent a significant portion of its IT budgets on business intelligence and related technology. Evaluation of BI readiness is vital because it serves two important goals. First, it shows gaps areas where company is not ready to proceed with its BI efforts. By identifying BI readiness gaps, we can avoid wasting time and resources. Second, the evaluation guides us what we need to close the gaps and implement BI with a high probability of success. Advancement in information system leads organizations to apply e-learning system to train their employees in order to enhance its performance. In this respect, applying web based training will enable the organization to train their employees quickly, efficiently and effectively anywhere at any time. This research aims to extend Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use Technology (UTAUT) using some factors such flexibility of web based training system, system interactivity and system enjoyment, in order to explain the employees' intention to use web based training system. A total of 290 employees have participated in this study. The calculation of airflows is of great importance for detailed building thermal simulation computer codes, these airflows most frequently constituting an important thermal coupling between the building and the outside on one hand, and the different thermal zones on the other. The driving effects of air movement, which are the wind and the thermal buoyancy, are briefly outlined and we look closely at their coupling in the case of buildings, by exploring the difficulties associated with large openings. Some numerical problems tied to the resolving of the non-linear system established are also covered. Part of a detailled simulation software (CODYRUN), the numerical implementation of this airflow model is explained, insisting on data organization and processing allowing the calculation of the airflows. Comparisons are then made between the model results and in one hand analytical expressions and in another and experimental measurements in case of a collective dwelling.

This paper proposed software architecture for operating an automatic semiconductor manufacturing machine. Recent machines for semiconductor process are required for high level of automation which are composed of motion control, machine vision, data acquisition and networking. These functions are executed through industrial equipments that are generally installed in a computer. The equipments occupy a great part of system resource and generate a lot of computation, so the software structure should be designed for efficiency. The proposed architecture is consisted of four layers and virtual equipments(VEs). The VEs are made by subclassing the physical equipments(PEs) and the layers are coded into thread which updates the status of VEs. Subroutines in a program refer to the pointer of VEs, and direct access to physical equipment are prohibited. The number of access (NOA) to PEs in typical industrial application was simulated for the unlimited access structure and the presented structure. The result showed that the proposed structure was more efficient than typical ones and irrespective of subroutines. Excellent computer simulations are done for a purpose. The most valid purposes are to explore uncharted territory, to resolve a well-posed scientific or technical question, or to make a design choice. Stand-alone modeling can serve the first purpose. The other two goals need a full integration of the modeling effort into a scientific or engineering program. Some excellent work, much of it related to the Department of Energy Laboratories, is reviewed. Some less happy stories are recounted. In the past, some of the most impressive work has involved complexity and chaos. Today, information technology (IT) has become a key element in economic development and a backbone of knowledge-based economies in terms of operations, quality delivery of services and productivity of services. Therefore, taking advantage of information technologies (IT) is an increasing challenge for developing countries. There is now growing evidence that Knowledge-driven innovation is a decisive factor in the competitiveness of nations, industries, organizations and firms. Organizations like the banking sector have benefited substantially from e-banking, which is one among the IT applications for strengthening the competitiveness. This paper presents the current trend in the application of IT in the banking industries in Nigeria and gives an insight into how quality banking has been enhanced via IT. The paper further reveals that the deployment of IT facilities in the Nigerian Banking industry has brought about fundamental changes in the content and quality of banking business in the country. This analysis and clarification of how Nigerian Banks have used IT to reengineer their operations is detailed through literature review and observation. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is a computationally intensive digital signal processing (DSP) function widely used in applications such as imaging, software-defined radio, wireless communication, instrumentation. In this paper, a reconfigurable FFT design using Vedic multiplier with high speed and small area is presented. Urdhava Triyakbhyam algorithm of ancient Indian Vedic Mathematics is utilized to improve its efficiency. In the proposed architecture, the 4x4 bit multiplication operation is fragmented reconfigurable FFT modules. The 4x4 multiplication modules are implemented using small 2x2bit multipliers. Reconfigurability at run time is provided for attaining power saving. The reconfigurable FFT has been designed, optimized and implemented on an FPGA based system. Crosstalk in VLSI interconnects is a major constrain in DSM and UDSM technology. Among various strategies followed for its minimization, shield insertion between Aggressor and Victim is one of the prominent options. This paper analyzes the extent of crosstalk in inductively coupled interconnects and minimizes the same through distributed shield insertion. Based on requirements of modern vehicle, in- vehicle Controller Area Network (CAN) architecture has been implemented. In order to reduce point to point wiring harness in vehicle automation, CAN is suggested as a means for data communication within the vehicle environment. The benefits of CAN bus based network over traditional point to point schemes will offer increased flexibility and expandability for future technology insertions. This paper describes system which uses sensors to measure various parameters of the car like speed, distance from the other car, presence of alcohol in car and accidental change of lane and sends a warning signal to the driver if any of the parameter goes out of range to avoid accidents . In addition to this if accident occurs in any remote area then using bump sensor accident is detected and SMS is send immediately using GSM. A situation that provides a good example of how the system works is when a driver is about to change lanes, and there is a car in his blind spot. Considering computer systems, security is the major concern with usability. Security policies need to be developed to protect information from unauthorized access. Passwords and secrete codes used between users and information systems for secure user authentication with the system. Playing a vital role in security, easily guessed passwords are links to vulnerability. They allow invader to put system resources significantly closer to access them, other accounts on nearby machines and possibly even administrative privileges with different threats and vulnerabilities (e.g., phishing, key logging and malwares). The purpose of this system is to introduce the concept and methodology which helps organization and users to implement stronger password policies. This paper studies a password stealing and reuse issues of password based authentication systems. Techniques and concepts of authentication are discussed which gives rise to a novel approach of two-factor authentication. Avoiding password reuse is a crucial issue in information systems which can at some extent contribute to password stealing issue also. Container handling problems at container terminals are NP-hard problems. This paper presents an approach using discrete-event simulation modeling to optimize solution for storage space allocation problem, taking into account all various interrelated container terminal handling activities. The proposed approach is applied on a real case study data of container terminal at Alexandria port. The deterioration of the underground infrastructure of the major cities around the world, due to ageing, has become a topic of great concern among engineers. Visual inspection, as part of the routine maintenance procedures, is a common practice used in the condition assessment of infrastructure to ensure its safety and serviceability. This practice, however, is labour-intensive, costly and inaccurate and, therefore, a new system based on computer vision technology is presented in this thesis, aiming to tackle these inadequacies. This thesis proposes a novel mosaicing system for inspection reporting, which can create an almost distortion-free mosaic of tunnels, thus allowing a large area of tunnels to be visualised. The system relies on Structure from Motion (SFM), which enables the system to cope with images with a general camera motion, in contrast to standard mosaicing software that can cope only with a strict camera motion. The system involves the automatic robust estimation of a 3D cylindrical surface using a Support Vector Machine to classify 3D points to improve the accuracy of the estimation. It is shown that some curvatures are observed in the mosaics when an inaccurate surface is used for mosaicing, while the mosaics from a surface estimated using the proposed method are almost distortion-free.
