From the perspective of Collective Health, this study aimed to analyze how the teaching of health education in undergraduate Nursing courses is processed contemporarily. The Educational Institutions were selected so as to represent the public and private sectors. The subjects, teachers responsible for developing the theme, were identified from the indications of the Coordinators of the Courses. An exploratory, descriptive, analytical, study with a qualitative approach was developed, which utilized documental analysis and a semi-structured interview based on a script, the analysis of which followed the steps of content analysis and identification of thematic nuclei. The results showed that the teaching developed remains largely linked with the biomedical preventive model and that the concepts of critical education and ‘popular’ educational practices are scarce, due to the deficient political education of the teachers, and more broadly, as a consequence of coping with an academic context of the implementation of the neoliberal ideas.; Na perspectiva da saúde coletiva, objetivou-se analisar como se processa, na contemporaneidade, o ensino de educação em saúde em cursos de graduação em Enfermagem.

Quality may be studied from different perspectives. Research shows that many variables may be envolved when the target is the educational system. One may analyse the motivation of students and teachers, the methodologies of teaching, the processes of evaluation, the resources available, the educational facilities, the course organization or the academic success. Recent research results show a strong positive correlation between students’ academic success and the quality of education available to them. However, the way students perceive the quality indicators has been a less explored area. We present the results of an academic longitudinal research project that aims to study the students’ representations of quality along the school system in order to contribute to an improvement of teaching and learning processes. The sampling of this exploratory study focused on compulsory education, secondary education and higher education. In this paper the authors analyse data collected in three institutions of higher education in Portugal, through a questionnaire survey.

Considering the importance given to creativity and to cooperative and active learning as facilitator methods of an Inclusive Education, on this paper we present a study that identifies the place given to active and expressive techniques in the initial training of educators/teachers. The Higher Education Institutions that provide training components within the inclusive education, active and expressive techniques were identified, characterizing those same components by analyzing the curricula of all courses of Initial Teacher Education in Portugal which qualify for teachers from pre-school education to the 2nd cycle of basic education. Data analysis will allow us to further reflect on the contribution of these areas to build positive models of Inclusive Education.

This study examined the perceptions of state governmental officials and administrators from the state university system, community college system, and independent institutions concerning the ability of various groups to influence state-level higher education policy formation. The study was conducted in Florida for the period 1989-94. Florida has a history of legislative involvement in higher education, a unique system of state universities and community colleges, and a limited number of private institutions of higher education. This study was grounded in the works of Mortimer and McConnell (1978), Millett (1987), Marshall, Mitchell, and Wirt (1989) and Finitfer, Baldwin, and Thelin (1991).^ The study represented the application of an embedded, single-case design. A survey was the primary collection instrument. Respondents were asked questions concerning: (a) personal involvement in higher education, (b) perceptions of the ability of various groups to influence higher education policy, (c) the names of particular individuals considered key players in higher education policy formation, (d) important state-level documents, (e) personal knowledge of key areas of policy formation, and (f) emerging higher education issues in Florida. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used to analyze the different sections of the survey.^ The findings indicated that a power and influence hierarchy exists among the various groups that attempt to influence higher education policy and that this hierarchy is recognized by state government officials and higher education administrators. While an analysis of variance of the various groups revealed a few differences between state government officials and higher education personnel...

Student demand for seamless education and lifelong learning is leading to increased levels of cross-sectoral provisional by publicly funded education and training institutions. However the sectoral divisions that characterise Australia’s education funding frameworks make it difficult for institutions to provide cross-sectoral courses and inhibit the development of “student-centred” learning programs. Where cross-sectoral programs are implemented, the sector-based funding arrangements lead to anomalies and inequities for both institutions and students. This paper argues that public funding for post-compulsory education and training should be distributed according to principles that are consistently applied, regardless of the sector in which studies are undertaken.; no

This study had two purposes: (a) to develop a theoretical framework integrating and synthesizing findings of prior research regarding stress and burnout among critical care nurses (CCRNs), and (b) to validate the theoretical framework with an empirical study to assure a theory/research based teaching-learning process for graduate courses preparing nursing clinical specialists and administrators.^ The methods used to test the theoretical framework included: (a) adopting instruments with reported validity, (b) conducting a pilot study, (c) revising instruments using results of the pilot study and following concurrence of a panel of experts, and (d) establishing correlations within predetermined parameters. The reliability of the tool was determined through the use of Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient with a resulting range from.68 to.88 for all measures.^ The findings supported all the research hypotheses. Correlations were established at r =.23 for statistically significant alphas at the.01 level and r =.16 for alphas.05. The conclusions indicated three areas of strong correlation among the theoretical variables: (a) work environment stressor antecedents and specific stressor events were correlated significantly with subjective work stress and burnout; (b) subjective work stress (perceived work related stress) was a function of the work environment stressor antecedents and specific stressor events...

This exploratory, descriptive action research study is based on a survey of a sample of convenience consisting of 172 college and university marketing students, and 5 professors who were experienced in teaching in an internet based environment. The students that were surveyed were studying e-commerce and international business in 3^^ and 4*'' year classes at a leading imiversity in Ontario and e-commerce in 5^ semester classes at a leading college. These classes were taught using a hybrid teaching style with the contribution of a large website that contained pertinent text and audio material. Hybrid teaching employs web based course materials (some in the form of Learning Objects) to deliver curriculimi material both during the attended lectures and also for students accessing the course web page outside of class hours. The survey was in the form on an online questionnaire. The research questions explored in this study were: 1. What factors influence the students' ability to access and learn from web based course content? 2. How likely are the students to use selected elements of internet based curriculum for learning academic content? 3. What is the preferred physical environment to facilitate learning in a hybrid environment? 4. How effective are selected teaching/learning strategies in a hybrid environment? The findings of this study suggest that students are very interested in being part of the learning process by contributing to a course web site. Specifically...

This study used a life history research design to explore first-generation university students' educational life stories and experiences with cultural capital. The project sought to examine how 3 first-generation university students experience cultural capital that is privileged in Ontario's education system and how the interactions between capital acquired through experiences within the home and school and capital privileged by the education system affect these students' educational experiences and perceptions. Using Pierre Bourdieu's (1984; 1986) theory of cultural capital as a framework, 3 firstgeneration, first-year university students participated in two 1- to 2-hour interviews. A focus on each participant's experiences with culture, capital, and education revealed themes corresponding to navigating, utilizing, and confronting familial, institutional, economic, and embodied forms of cultural capital. The study highlights the importance of recognizing how cultural capital influences the education system and how firstgeneration students can recreate normative pathways and achieve academic success despite challenges posed by the cultural capital privileged within the education system. Given cultural capital's effect on academic success...

This study examines the genesis and development of Spanish education reform since 1990 from a systemic perspective. Problems affecting the entirety of the education system will be examined in relation to changes made mainly in Europe and developed countries (economic, technological, labor, and cultural modifications). Specifically analyzed are the effects of demographic changes and migratory movements on education. This study of secondary education will focus on the positive effects and the main concerns brought on by applying the principle of comprehensive education and continuing promotion, and will conclude by underscoring the need for legislative and pedagogical changes to the curriculum, school timing, and the professionalization of teachers. Higher education will be reviewed in terms of the results of the processes of educational assessment and innovation within the broader context of quality management. The paper concludes by pointing out the main challenges now facing the Spanish education system if it is to meet societal expectations and demands: integrating personal education and professional training, opening up to the new political and demographic realities, and particularly, revising the entire education system in light of new demands for life-long and life-wide education.

The delivery of transnational higher education by emerging market providers is a relatively new phenomenon -- While much has been written about mainly British, U.S. and Australian providers delivering higher education programs offshore, this paper explores the transnational delivery of education by two universities from emerging markets: Mexico's Sistema Tecnol??gico de Monterrey (Tec de Monterrey) and Malaysia's Limkokwing University of Creative Technology -- By developing a comprehensive listing of the universities' transnational engagement and motivations, and comparing them to traditional and contemporary firm internationalisation theories, the paper is able to highlight some of the key similarities and differences between the theory and practise in the context of emerging market transnational education providers -- The paper finds that, despite the unique character of the sector, the patterns of internationalisation of Sistema Tecnol??gico de Monterrey and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology are similar to those of firms in other industries -- Furthermore, recent theories explaining the internationalisation of developing country multinationals help to understand the speed at which both universities have internationalised and some of the business and non-business advantages gained from delivering programs abroad
