The main objective of this research is to examine the national prevalence and scale of cyberbullying, how it takes place and the core characteristics (behaviors, frequency, and duration) of cyberbullying victimization. We also intend to analyze the existence of an overlap between the roles of victims and aggressors concerning this risk. In order to accomplish our goals we have made a cross cultural comparison between Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom and developed a questionnaire (Online Victimization Assessment) that we have applied to a representative sample of students from ten to eighteen years old, from Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. Participants were students on randomly selected public and private schools and descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze data. Results reveal that cyberbullying is the most present risk in online youngsters’ exposure in the three contexts. We also identified the existence of an overlap between the roles of victims and aggressors, with older females, without parental supervision, revealing higher correlation levels. These results led us to conclude that the anonymity of the Internet and the fact of not having to deal directly with the consequences of their actions...

Counselor emotional exhaustion has negative implications for treatment organizations as well as the health of counselors. Quality clinical supervision is protective against emotional exhaustion, but research on the mediating mechanisms between supervision and exhaustion is limited. Drawing upon data from 934 counselors affiliated with treatment programs in the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s Clinical Trials Network (CTN), this study examined commitment to the treatment organization and commitment to the counseling occupation as potential mediators of the relationship between quality clinical supervision and emotional exhaustion. The final ordinary least squares (OLS) regression model, which accounted for the nesting of counselors within treatment organizations, indicated that these two types of commitment were plausible mediators of the association between clinical supervision and exhaustion. Higher quality clinical supervision was strongly correlated with commitment to the treatment organization as well as commitment to the occupation of SUD counseling. These findings suggest that quality clinical supervision has the potential to yield important benefits for counselor well-being by strengthening ties to both their employing organization as well the larger treatment field...

The 2007-2008 financial crisis solidified the consensus among policymakers that a macro-prudential approach to regulation and supervision should be adopted. The currently preferred policy option is the regulation of capital requirements, with the main focus on combating procyclicality and on identifying the banks that have a high systemic importance, those that are “too big to fail”. Here we argue that the concept of systemic risk should include the analysis of the system as a whole and we explore systematically the most important properties for policy purposes of networks topology on resistance to shocks. In a thorough study going from analytical models to empirical data, we show two sharp transitions from safe to risky regimes: 1) diversification becomes harmful with just a small fraction (~2%) of the shocks sampled from a fat tailed shock distributions and 2) when large shocks are present a critical link density exists where an effective giant cluster forms and most firms become vulnerable. This threshold depends on the network topology, especially on modularity. Firm size heterogeneity has important but diverse effects that are heavily dependent on shock characteristics. Similarly, degree heterogeneity increases vulnerability only when shocks are directed at the most connected firms. Furthermore...

This note explains that given the limited budgets allocated to supervision activities, supervising World Bank projects has long been a serious challenge-particularly in sprawling rural areas with small poor communities spread out over vast distances. Innovative ways of sharing monitoring and supervision roles and responsibilities with local partners, therefore, carry important practical implications for project managers, whose own capacity to monitor developments and identify challenges is limited by distance and time constraints.

This qualitative study investigated three novice counselors’ experiences and characterizations of therapeutic relationships. Thematic analyses of interviews and diaries revealed six common themes: (a) the centrality of supervision and training experiences to navigating interpersonal experiences with clients; (b) anxiety about counselors’ roles in therapeutic relationships; (c) the perception of the therapeutic relationship as less directive than outside (lay) helping relationships; (d) experimentation with different interpersonal styles; (e)awareness of countertransference; and, (f) impact of therapeutic relationships on outside relationships. Findings expand upon the therapeutic relationship as a focal point for the training and supervision of novice counselors.

BACKGROUND Health professionals practising in countries with dispersed populations such as Australia rely on clinical supervision for professional support. While there are directives and guidelines in place to govern clinical supervision, little is known about how it is actually conducted and what makes it effective. The purpose of this study was to explore the enablers of and barriers to high quality clinical supervision among occupational therapists across Queensland in Australia. METHODS This qualitative study took place as part of a broader project. Individual, in-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with occupational therapy supervisees in Queensland. The interviews explored the enablers of and barriers to high quality clinical supervision in this group. They further explored some findings from the initial quantitative study. RESULTS Content analysis of the interview data resulted in eight themes. These themes were broadly around the importance of the supervisory relationship, the impact of clinical supervision and the enablers of and barriers to high quality clinical supervision. DISCUSSION This study identified a number of factors that were perceived to be associated with high quality clinical supervision. Supervisor-supervisee matching and fit...

Objective: The main objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance of leadership roles and the nurses' satisfaction with supervision and to examine the relationship between the performance of leadership roles and nurse satisfaction. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, correlational and transversal study was conducted, with a sample made up of 79 nurses practicing in two public health institutions in the district of Coimbra in Portugal. Data collected included demographic characteristics, eight leadership roles and ï¬Âve levels of supervision satisfaction. The Munson's Supervision Satisfaction Scale and the Quinn's Leadership Scale were used. The instruments adaptation and validation study revealed adequate psychometric properties being considered as valid instruments for the quantitative study pursuance. Results: The results indicate an acknowledgement of all roles of leadership, having a tendency towards the roles of producer (4.73) and director (4.64) indicating leadership centered on the rational goals model, revealing a greater concern with efï¬Âciency and productivity. The role of innovator was the one least perceived (4.16). Most nurses (83.50%) were satisï¬Âed with the supervision. The relationships between all the leadership roles and nurse satisfaction were positive...

During the larger part of my fieldwork, I had with me my wife, Susan, and two small daughters, Katharine and Lisa. Although village life was attractive to us all and would have been personally very satisfying, it was recognised that the acquisition of a European dwelling on Yule Island would allow for more efficient field work in that suitable facilities would be available. Within a few weeks of arriving I had set up a dark room for developing films exposed during the day's work, a wash room for cleaning and drying specimens and a small laboratory equipped with benches, shelves, drawing board and light table, all of which enabled me to fully process all artifacts, complete a preliminary analysis, and do a number of drawings. A technical paper was written in the field for presentation at the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science Congress held at Port Moresby in 1970 based upon the results of analysis carried out in this laboratory. Another great help in the field work was a motor bike the University had allowed me to purchase. Although roads are poor in the area, native tracks are abundant and ideally suited for two wheeled travel. A two hour walk from home to practically any site was cut down to less than half an hour on the Honda...

This review concludes that for Togo's urban and peri-urban areas to sustainably grow, issues of urban governance and development need to be approached in a comprehensive manner, driven by well -guided policies developed in partnership with the people to support Sub-National Government Authorities and Entities(SGAs) in carrying out their functions efficiently. To meet evolving challenges of urbanization and decentralization, the Government of Togo (GoT) must rationalize the roles of various levels of government and agencies and limit their numbers to limit duplication, strengthen the capacities of relevant sector institutions and coordinate institutional actions and investments. It is further recommended that GoT must (i) clarify the roles and functions of national, prefectural, and local governments while ensuring that coordination functions between them work well; (ii) separate urban policy and regulatory functions from implementation of urban projects by allocating implementation responsibilities to private operators or qualified state agencies under performance-based arrangements; (iii) ensure proper allocation of taxing responsibilities...

The process of Supervision of Curriculum Enrichment Activities - Perceptions of teachers and supervisors in a Group of Schools of Évora This work falls within the field of practice under Supervision of Curriculum Enrichment Activities. The implementation of these activities in public school gave it new dynamics and concerns and introduced important changes in the schools of the 1st cycle...

Policy Question: How should North Carolina’s Aging Network provide information and assistance services so that all older adults (and their caregivers) looking for long-term care receive appropriate guidance? Introduction: Information and Assistance (I&A) programs inform, counsel and connect people seeking long-term care with services that could meet their needs. The Older Americans Act mandated that every Area Agency on Aging (of which there are 17 in North Carolina) establish I&A programs in their region. North Carolina has 42 I&A programs registered with the Division of Aging and Adult Services; more counties offer these services without OAA funds. As the population ages, more people will need a well-informed, local agency is critical to help them navigate the long-term care system and access services. Older adults and their families face such a complicated array of choices and decisions – about not only health care, but also housing, finances, and basic household tasks. Ten years ago, the North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM) delivered its report, “A Long-Term Care Plan for North Carolina: Final Report” to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Early in its deliberations, the Task Force concluded “one of its goals would be to propose a system that would allow consumers to find their way into and through the system with ease.” Once the state was awarded a Real Choice Systems Grant...

Postgraduate supervision in South Africa currently takes place in the context of university transformation with a notable increase in concern for quality. The latter is determined by the extent to which students' expectations within a supervisory practice are met. This study investigated students' expectations regarding their research supervision in a postgraduate nursing programme. A 48-item questionnaire was mailed to 24 postgraduate students, of which 22 (92%) responded, to determine their expectations within a supervisory relationship. Items in the questionnaire included students' perceptions of the responsibilities of the institution, the department, the supervisor and students' responsibilities regarding their supervised postgraduate studies in the School of Nursing Science. Descriptive statistics, namely frequencies and percentages for categorical data and means and standard deviations or medians and percentiles for continuous data, were calculated. Findings indicate that more than 80% of the postgraduate students in the study expected the university and the department to provide them with structures that would enable them to succeed in their studies. They also believed that the student had a major role to play in ensuring that studies were completed. Recommendations included making a code of practice for postgraduate supervision available to students and the use of a learning contract to clarify roles and expectations in the supervisory process. It was also recommended that supervisors should be trained to supervise students.

Reviewed literature revealed that clinical supervision is a conceptually sound learning model, which, unfortunately, is flawed by problems of implementation. Some of the more glaring problems include limited emphasis upon problem-solving, lack of clear expectations for student performance, inadequate feedback to students, inappropriate role models in clinical settings and inadequately prepared clinical teachers. The purpose of the study was to explore and describe the nature of clinical supervision and support provided to bridging programme students in the clinical settings. Participants were drawn from three nursing colleges and 122 participants returned questionnaires. College 1:26,2% (n=32), College 2:15,6% (n=19) and the majority, 58, 2 % (n=71) were from College 3. The participants were second year students in the Bridging Programme. Purposive sampling was used for the selection of the hospitals. The researcher purposively selected those hospitals offering the Bridging Programme. The students were randomly sampled. According to Burns and Grove (2001), simple random sampling is the most basic and most effective of the probably sampling methods. Data was collected by means of a questionnaire and a critical incident report. The questionnaire used in this study was adapted from the Manchester Clinical Supervision Instrument. The findings revealed that clinical supervision contributes positively to the academic...
