Os resultados obtidos com a aplicação da ferramenta em edifício comprovaram a sua aplicabilidade e eficiência no sistema predial de água não potável.; The use of alternative source of water in residential buildings has been practiced in more constant in recent years aiming to reduce the demand for potable water (drinking water). However, the use of non-potable water requires criteria that must be respected to preserve the health of users...

A questão do projeto paramétrico e generativo é introduzida...

Typing systems are used to discriminate between isolates of Helicobacter pylori for epidemiological and clinical purposes. Discriminatory power and typeability are important performance criteria of typing systems. Discriminatory power refers to the ability to differentiate among unrelated isolates; it is quantitatively expressed by the discriminatory index (DI). Typeability refers to the ability of the method to provide an unambiguous result for each isolate analyzed; it is quantitatively expressed by the percentage of typeable isolates. We evaluated the discriminatory power and the typeability of the most currently used DNA fingerprinting methods for the typing of H. pylori isolates: ribotyping, PCR-based restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis, and random amplified polymorphism DNA (RAPD) analysis. Forty epidemiologically unrelated clinical isolates were selected to constitute a test population adapted to the evaluation of these performance criteria. A meta-analysis of typeability and discriminatory power was conducted retrospectively with raw data from published studies in which ribotyping, PCR-RFLP, RAPD, repetitive extragenic palindromic DNA sequence-based PCR (REP-PCR), or pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) was used. Experimental results and the meta-analysis demonstrated the optimal typeability (100%) and the excellent discriminatory powers of PCR-based typing methods: RAPD analysis...

The article entitled, Performance of the CONTOUR® TS Blood Glucose Monitoring System, by Frank and colleagues in this issue of Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, demonstrates that the CONTOUR® TS glucose meter exceeds current regulatory expectations for glucose meter performance. However, the appropriateness of current regulatory expectations, such as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 15197:2003, is being reevaluated because of increasing concern regarding the reliability of glucose meters in ambulatory and hospitalized environments. Between 2004 and 2008, 12,673 serious adverse events with glucose meters that met the ISO 15197 expectations were reported in the Food and Drug Administration–Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience surveillance database. Should different glucose meter performance criteria be applied to ambulatory versus critical care patients?

Performance-based maintenance contracts differ significantly from material and method-based contracts that have been traditionally used to maintain roads. Road agencies around the world have moved towards a performance-based contract approach because it offers several advantages like cost saving, better budgeting certainty, better customer satisfaction with better road services and conditions. Payments for the maintenance of road are explicitly linked to the contractor successfully meeting certain clearly defined minimum performance indicators in these contracts. Quantitative evaluation of the cost of performance-based contracts has several difficulties due to the complexity of the pavement deterioration process. Based on a probabilistic analysis of failures of achieving multiple performance criteria over the length of the contract period, an effort has been made to develop a model that is capable of estimating the cost of these performance-based contracts. One of the essential functions of such model is to predict performance of the pavement as accurately as possible. Prediction of future degradation of pavement is done using Markov Chain Process, which requires estimating transition probabilities from previous deterioration rate for similar pavements. Transition probabilities were derived using historical pavement condition rating data...

To stay competitive, many employers are looking for creative and innovative employees to add value to their organization. However, current models of job performance overlook creative performance as an important criterion to measure in the workplace. The purpose of this dissertation is to conduct two separate but related studies on creative performance that aim to provide support that creative performance should be included in models of job performance, and ultimately included in performance evaluations in organizations. Study 1 is a meta-analysis on the relationship between creative performance and task performance, and the relationship between creative performance and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Overall, I found support for a medium to large corrected correlation for both the creative performance-task performance (ρ = .51) and creative performance-OCB (ρ = .49) relationships. Further, I also found that both rating-source and study location were significant moderators. Study 2 is a process model that includes creative performance alongside task performance and OCB as the outcome variables. I test a model in which both individual differences (specifically: conscientiousness, extraversion, proactive personality, and self-efficacy) and job characteristics (autonomy...

Test methods for materials and articles in contact with foodstuffs are required to determine the concentration of residues of monomers in the materials themselves or to determine the concentration of individual or groups of substances in food (or food simulants) which have migrated from the food contact materials. The Community Reference Laboratory and National Reference Laboratories for food contact materials (FCM) prepared the present Guidelines to illustrate the required performance criteria for the analytical methods applied in the laboratories for FCM and provide procedures for method validation in order to estimate their performance characteristics. The scope of these guidelines is to provide rules for the performance of the analytical methods to be used in the verification of compliance with the migration limits defined in Directive 2002/72/EC,as amended, and in accordance with Directive 82/711/EEC, as amended, and others defined in the European legislation, in order to ensure the quality and comparability of the analytical results. The document presents 4 approaches, according to the different purpose of performance assessment. These guidelines are intended as a dynamic document and they will evolve and expand into further editions. This is the first edition. These guidelines have been endorsed by the European Union official Network of National Reference Laboratories and approved by the EU Commission competent service DG SANCO. This work also highlights an important deliverable for the Network of NRLs. In particular...

A set of statistical indicators fit for air quality model evaluation is selected based on experience and literature: The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), the bias (Bias), the standard Deviation (SD) and the correlation factor (R) are selected. Among these the RMSE is proposed as the key one for the description of the model skill. Model Performance Criteria (MPC) to investigate whether a model results are ‘good enough’ for a given application are calculated based on the observation uncertainty (U). The basic concept is to allow for model results a similar margin of tolerance (in terms of uncertainty) as for observations. U is pollutant, concentration level and station dependent, therefore the proposed MPC are normalized by U. Some existing composite diagrams are adapted to visualize model performance in terms of the proposed MPC and are illustrated in a real modeling application. The Target diagram, used to visualize the RMSE, is adapted with a new normalization on its axis, while complementary diagrams are proposed. In this first application the dependence of U on concentrations level and station is ignored, and an assumption on the pollutant dependent relative error is made. The advantages of this new approach are finally described.; JRC.H.2-Air and Climate

The definition of appropriate performance criteria is one of the key issues for the benchmarking of air quality models in regulatory applications. As part of the FAIRMODE benchmarking activities (Thunis et al., 2010), suitable criteria for air quality modelling in the frame of the EU air quality directive (AQD) 2008 are proposed and tested. The suggested approach builds on the target indicator (Jolliff et al., 2009) as support to the relative directive error, the current official statistical parameter as defined in the AQD (EEA, 2011), for quantitatively estimating model performances in air quality modelling applications. This study describes the advantages of using the target compared to the actual limitations of RDE and addresses the main links between the target and some ‘traditional’ statistical indicators (MFB, R, FAC2, σ). It also describes the application of this methodology to NO2, O3 and PM10 concentrations on three different model-observations datasets. Among these datasets two focus on the urban areas of Madrid and London and include modelled results provided by the air quality models CMAQ and ADMS-Urban for years 2007 and 2008 respectively. One other dataset (POMI) covering the Po valley and including multiple model results has also been tested for year 2005.; JRC.H.2-Air and Climate

The distinction between technical and contextual performance is widely recognized in the Industrial/Organization Psychology literature (Sackett & Lievens, 2008). Less well-understood are the causal antecedents of performance in these domains and how those antecedents relate to each other. Motowidlo, Borman, and Schmit (1997) proposed that technical performance is determined largely by cognitive ability, which acts through the mediator technical knowledge to influence technical performance. They also proposed that contextual performance is mainly determined by personality traits and that these traits influence contextual performance via the mediating variable contextual knowledge. Although prior research has examined some of the causal antecedents proposed by Motowidlo et al. (1997), no study has examined these four variables simultaneously, in addition to gathering information about performance criteria in the two domains. This study examined these six variables in a sample of medical students. In keeping with the verbiage used in the medical literature, students' contextual knowledge is referred to as professional knowledge and their contextual performance is referred to as professional performance. Medical students (N = 209) beginning their third year at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston completed measures of professional knowledge and the Big Five personality traits and consented to have their MCAT scores (a proxy for cognitive ability) and their first- and second-year course grades (grade point average; a measure of their technical knowledge) gathered for this investigation. Performance criteria consisted of attending physicians' ratings of students' professional and technical performance during their clinical rotations. Rotations were grouped according to whether they fell into the domain of Primary Care or the Specialties. Notable findings are summarized by a path analytic model. Agreeableness exerted a causal influence on professional knowledge (β = .38) and Primary Care professional performance (β = .14). Extraversion causally affected professional knowledge (β = -.22). Professional knowledge accounted for variance in Primary Care professional (β = .19) and technical performance (β = .22). Openness to experience and conscientiousness influenced technical knowledge (β's -.19 and .25). Cognitive ability was directly related to technical knowledge (β = .43) and Specialties professional (β = -.21) and technical performance (β = -.19). Technical knowledge was related to Primary Care professional (β = .32) and technical performance (β = .42) and also Specialties professional (β = .46) and technical performance (β = .57). Results generally suggest that separate causal paths underlie performance in Primary Care and the Specialties...

Having achieved fundamental milestones in terms of representative democracy and institutional modernization, Honduras continues to face important challenges in its bid to provide public services with coverage and quality commensurate with the resources available to the country. Honduras has come a long way in its democratic development, with seven free elections held since 1981 and the military subordinated to civilian control. Since the 1980s, the country has undertaken key public sector management reforms and has all of the formal components of a modern democracy. However, its average rate of economic growth and its degree of progress in reducing poverty over the past two decades have been low relative to most other Latin American countries, at this growth rate, Honduras will reach the current income per capita of El Salvador ($2,530) in 2050. The aim of this study is to propose a variational method of tolerancing analysis using a multiphysical approach. This method is based on operations on polytopes (Minkowski sum and intersection) and can be used to validate geometric specifications, contact specifications and thermomechanical specifications. The first part describes how thermomechanical strains are integrated into a tolerancing analysis tool, based on operations on polytopes. In the second part correlations are defined between two turbine performance criteria, leakage section and risk of touching, and two geometric conditions respectively. In the third part, the influence of design choices is described, in particular the influence of the shape of the parts and the behaviour of the joints on the thermomechanical operating regime of the turbine. Two turbine architectures are considered in relation to the same two performance criteria, and lastly the main turbine architecture results are discussed and future developments are described.

A series of five experimental conditions were designed to investigate the influence of minimum performance criteria and grade labels on college student academic performance. A college course in abnormal psychology was taught in an individualized manner so that each student could perform on each unit of subject matter in individual performance sessions whenever he wished. In each of the five experiments the minimum performance criteria that had to be attained before progressing to the next unit were varied during the quarter and the resulting changes in performance were recorded. In Experiment I there were no criteria; in Experiments II, III, and IV three levels of criteria (High, Medium, and Low) were varied but all of the criteria defined a course grade of “A”. In Experiment V, the three criteria defined course grades of A, B, and C. The results showed that the criteria controlled performance to a high degree, so that regardless of what quality of performance had been demonstrated previously or was being produced currently, performance was immediately changed to attain new criteria put into effect. Students in Experiment I produced very poor performance compared to the other conditions.

The new manufacturing environment, global competition and information technology represent issues often used to justify the need for organizations to change how they assess their overall performance. Behavioral accounting research provides insights on relationships between the level of reliance on accounting information for performance evaluation and individual behavior. From another perspective, agency studies investigate how organization's ability to function successfully is determined by the availability of performance information upon which managers can act. In an attempt to better understand how and why these theories may shed new lights on the evaluation of organizational overall performance, this paper discusses three related issues being: What are the main dimensions of organizational performance? How and to which extent is reward system related to performance evaluation? Why is performance criteria definition a difficult task?

The proper design of lightweight façades implies, among other aspects, establishing performance requirements to minimize losses in building quality and cost, as well as maintenance. this article discusses and suggests performance, safety, and sustainability requirements and criteria that should be specified in a lightweight façades design for commercial multi-story buildings. The current article is part of a doctoral research project in progress. it is based on studies and comparative analyses of different building standards, as well as brazilian and international literature on the subject of performance. the results show that performance requirements and criteria should be discussed and defined early in the design phase, and performance issues should be dealt with at three levels: defining key façade requirements; identifying performance criteria for these requirements; and specifying the performance review of the façade and its components. only later should the technology to be employed and defined.; El desarrollo adecuado de un proyecto de fachadas ligeras implica, entre otros, establecer indicadores de desempeño, buscando minimizar perjuicios relacionados con la calidad y el costo durante las fases de ejecución y manutención del edificio.
